In yesterday’s health section of the New York Times, they reported that the White House garden will be planting 55 varieties of vegetables. Sadly, there will be no beets. President Obama doesn’t like them. This news has triggered a whole wave of bloggers intent on trying to spread the word that the President is missing out.
It’s a shame because beets, as well as other foods from the purple family are often misunderstood. To shine some light of these veggies, I can’t help but turn your attention to an article in the New York Times in June of 2008. Dr. Jonny Bowden, nutritionist and author, articulates the “11 Best Foods You Aren’t Eating.” What’s at the top of the list?
You guessed it, beets. What’s second? Cabbage. What timing??!! Two Sundays ago on Dr. Galati’s radio program, cabbage was a featured guest. We devoted 10 minutes exclusively to this very misunderstood God food. How convenient that beets and cabbage lead the way for foods you should be eating.
